Info
Wrath of the Roothless is a 2D tilted orthogonal, melee-focussed-combat roguelite. The game features a range of characters available to the player, these characters are so called 'Roothless'.
The game features a procedurally generated 'dungeon' inside a bigger world in which the player unravels the secrets behind the Gargantuan Castle. The combat is, unlike current popular roguelike/lites which feature ranged combat, melee focussed. The fighting mechanics are also made very deliberate like The Surge, in which every mistake is punished heavily, and a reliance on skill is necessary to survive. |
Process
Somewhere around April 2018 I started working on this game. A concept came to mind:
What if I made a game that played similar to dark souls, but even more deliberate, in a 2d setting? Featuring roguelike/lite elements? A demo was made very quickly, and played on my birthday. I received great feedback, mostly on the execution of the demo, not the concept itself, which gave me a boost of confidence that I was going in the right direction. The game is 2D, but in order to create a fast art pipeline for myself, I create/animate the assets in 3D. I then export them to Unity, and through a beautiful tool which I adapted for my specific case, am able to turn the 3D art into 2D assets |
